Thoughtful garden design and care
Kindred Gardens offers design, planting, and ongoing care shaped by the needs of each garden.
Design is plant-centered, shaped by the client’s vision, the unique conditions of each site, and the surrounding ecosystem. With over a decade of hands-on experience, the practice is rooted in deep horticultural knowledge and a nature-first philosophy.
Through careful observation and seasonal knowledge, gardens are supported to mature naturally — responding to weather, growth, and change.
Planting is generous and considered, creating gardens that feel settled, abundant, and resilient from the outset - gardens that continue to strengthen and evolve naturally over time.
Process & services
Every project begins with listening and connecting: to the client, the site, the soil, the exposure, and the life already present.
Typical steps:
visiting the site
defining the brief, priorities, and budget
surveying the site and surroundings
taking measurements where needed
arranging soil analysis to better understand the garden’s conditions
Consultation
Design responds to these factors, identifying plants and other elements that will work together to create a natural garden, whatever the space.
This stage may include:
developing mood boards, sketches, or drawings
coordinating any landscaping work required
creating a detailed planting plan tailored to the site
sourcing plants suited to the garden’s conditions and character
planting and installation
installing irrigation or lighting if required
Design & planting
Through seasonal observation and thoughtful horticulture, gardens are nurtured to grow, evolve, and mature naturally.
Ongoing care may include:
creating a bespoke maintenance and care plan
regular maintenance visits fortnightly or monthly during the growing season
support and guidance if you wish to care for your own garden
Care & evolution
Sustainability in practice
Sustainability lives in everyday decisions. Chemical pesticides are avoided; instead, pest control relies on plant choice, balance, and experience with biological control if needed - preventing issues before they arise. Gardens are plant-rich, designed with low-impact principles in mind.
Plants are increasingly grown from seed, cuttings, or small plugs to reduce plastic, support smaller growers, and allow slower cultivation. Pots are reused, materials are repurposed wherever possible, and seeds are saved for future seasons.
Gardens are designed for longevity, favouring perennials and natural evolution. Every garden supports wildlife all year-round. Leaves, seed heads, and stems are left over winter, to support biodiversity and nourish the soil. To minimise disruption and pollution all our tools are battery powered.
Maintenance is thoughtful. Working with nature, not against it.
